چکیده

The e ect of the magnetic breakdown on the dHvA oscillation is studied by full-quantum numerical calculation for a two-dimensional model. We demonstrate that the interference di erence oscillation, usually designated as , exists even in the thermodynamic quantity; this result is contrary to the conventional semi-classical picture. In addition, the dependencies of various oscillations of the magnetization on the eld, temperature and band gap are examined thoroughly and compared with the semi-classical theory by Falicov and Stachoviak, which is based on the Pippard's coupled network model and the Lifshitz-Kosevich formula. We discuss the relevance of our calculation to the observed interference di erence frequencies in the dHvA oscillation of magnesium and in the SdH oscillation of two-dimensional organic conductors.

Quantum oscillations in the linear chain of coupled orbits: the organic metal with two cation layers θ-(ET)4CoBr4(C6H4Cl2)

Analytical formulae for de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) oscillations in linear chain of coupled two-dimensional (2D) orbits (Pippard’s model) are derived systematically taking into account the chemical potential oscillations in magnetic field. Although corrective terms are observed, basic (α) and magnetic breakdown-induced (β and 2β α) orbits can be accounted for by the LifshitsKosevich (LK) and Fali...

Magnetic oscillations in a two - dimensional network of com - pensated electron and hole orbits

– The Fermi surface of the quasi-two dimensional (2D) organic metal (ET)8Hg4Cl12 (C6H5Br)2 can be regarded as a 2D network of compensated electron and hole orbits coupled by magnetic breakthrough. Simultaneous measurements of the interlayer magnetoresistance and magnetic torque have been performed for various directions of the magnetic field up to 28 T in the temperature range from 0.36 K to 4....

Absence of Landau’s Diamagnetism in Two Dimensions

– The statistical weight W as a function of energy E for quasielectrons with mass m∗ subject to a fixed magnetic field B is W/A = ( m/πh̄ ) E + ( eB/πh̄ ) ∑ ∞ ν=1 (−1)ν · sin (2πνE/h̄ωc), where A is the sample area, and ωc ≡ eB/m ∗ the cyclotron frequency. Significantly, there is no Landau’s term proportional to B in 2D. This leads to the conclusion that the 2D electron system is always paramagnet...

Quantum Interference Control of Ballistic Magneto- resistance in a Magnetic Nanowire Containing Two Atomic- Size Domain Walls

The magnetoresistance of a one-dimensional electron gas in a metallic ferromagnetic nanowire containing two atomic-size domain walls has been investigated in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. The magnetoresistance is calculated in the ballistic regime, within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It has been demonstrated that the conductance of a magnetic nanowire with double domain walls...

Phase analysis of quantum oscillations in graphite.

The quantum de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) and Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations measured in graphite were decomposed by pass-band filtering onto contributions from three different groups of carriers. Generalizing the theory of dHvA oscillations for 2D carriers with an arbitrary spectrum and by detecting the oscillation frequencies using a method of two-dimensional phase-frequency analysis which we dev...
